ഈജിപ്‌തും അവിടത്തെ പിരമിഡും മറ്റു ചരിത്ര നിർമിതികളും എല്ലാം  നേരിൽ കാണണം എന്നത് ഏറെ കാലത്തെ  ഒരു ആഗ്രഹം ആയിരുന്നു.  യാത്ര പോകുന്നതിനു മാസങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് തന്നെ ചിലവ് കുറച്ചു എങ്ങിനെ പോകാം എന്നതിനെ പറ്റി വിശദമായ പഠനം  തുടങ്ങി.  നാട്ടിലേക്ക് പോകുമ്പോൾ ഈജിപ്ത് വഴി പോയാൽ   ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് പോയി വരുമ്പോൾ അവധി കിട്ടാനുള്ള ബുദ്ദിമുട്ട്,  റീ എൻട്രി ക്കുള്ള അധിക ചിലവ് എന്നിവ കൂടാതെ വിമാന യാത്ര ചിലവും ലഭിക്കാൻ പറ്റും  എന്ന് മനസിലാക്കി . ജിദ്ദയിൽ നിന്നും കെയ്റോ യിലേക്കുള്ള  രണ്ടര മണിക്കൂറോളം വരുന്ന വിമാന ടിക്കറ്റ് ഓഫർ നിരക്കിൽ ലഭിച്ചത് 249 റിയാലിന് ആയിരുന്നു.  മറ്റിടങ്ങളിലേക്കുള്ള ബേസിക് ടിക്കറ്റിൽ 7 കിലോ ഹാൻഡ് ലഗേജ്‌ മാത്രം നൽകുമ്പോൾ കെയ്റോ യിലേക്ക് മാത്രം 20 കിലോ ലഗേജും ഫുഡും  നൽകുന്നുണ്ട്.  ജിദ്ദ യിലെ ഈജിപ്ത് കോൺസുലേറ്റിൽ നിന്നും വിസ കിട്ടാൻ 350 റിയാലും ഏറെ ബുദ്ദിമുട്ടും ആണെന്ന് മനസ്സിലാക്കി മറ്റു മാർഗങ്ങൾ അന്വേഷിച്ചപ്പോൾ അറ്റ്ലിസ് എന്ന ആപ്പിനെ പറ്റി മനസ്സിലാക്കി അതിൽ നിന്നും  2500  ഇന്ത്യൻ രൂപക്കു വിസയും  കിട്ടി. പിന്നെ വേണ്ടത് താമസിക്കാൻ ഒരിടം ആയിരുന്നു. നഗര മധ്യത്തിൽ തന്നെയുള്ള ഒരു ഹോസ്റ്റലിൽ രണ്ടു പേർക്ക് രണ്ടു ദിവസം താമസിക്കാൻ 120 റിയാലിന് താമസ സൗകര്യവും റെഡി ആയി. കെയ്റോ യുടെ മാപ് വിശദമായി പഠിച്ചപ്പോൾ നഗരം വളരെ വലുതാണെങ്കിലും നമുക്ക് കാണേണ്ടവയെല്ലാം ഏകദേശം അടുത്തടുത്താ ണെന്ന് മനസ്സിലായി. നഗരത്തിനകത്തുള്ള യാത്ര ചിലവ് കുറവാണെന്നും മനസ്സിലാക്കി. ആയിടക്ക് സുഹ്രത്തു വഴി പരിചയപ്പെട്ട കെയ്റോ യിൽ പഠിക്കുന്ന ശാക്കിർ അസ്ഹരി ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് വേണ്ട എല്ലാ സൗകര്യങ്ങളും ചെയ്തു തരാൻ  സന്നദ്ധനായി. വര്ഷങ്ങളായി അവിടെ താമസിക്കുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം പൂർണമായും ഞങ്ങളുടെ കൂടെ ഉണ്ടായത് ഏറെ സൗകര്യ പ്രദമായി .  കെയ്റോ യിൽ നിന്നും കോഴിക്കോട്ടേക്ക് റിയാദ് വഴി ഫ്ലൈ നാസിൽ 700 റിയാലിന് ടിക്കറ്റും കിട്ടി. ഒറ്റക്കാണ് യാത്ര പ്ലാൻ ചെയ്തത് എങ്കിലും പല യാത്രകളിലും സഹ യാത്രികനായ സുഹ്രത്തും സഹ പ്രവർത്തകനുമായ  ഡോക്ടർ ഇജാസും കൂടെ വരാൻ തയ്യാറായി. എല്ലാ ഒരുക്കങ്ങളും പൂർത്തിയാക്കി യാത്ര പുറപ്പെടാനായി ഞങ്ങൾ ജിദ്ദ വിമാനത്താവളത്തിലെ  പുതിയ ടെർമിനലിൽ എത്തിച്ചേർന്നു. നേരത്തെ ഒരു തവണ ഇത് വഴി യാത്ര ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കിലും അവിടത്തെ അക്വാറിയം അന്ന് കാണാൻ സാധിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല. അറൈവൽ ഭാഗത്തു ആയതിനാൽ ആണ് അന്ന് കാണാൻ പറ്റാതിരുന്നത്. ലഗേജ് വിട്ട് ബോർഡിങ് പാസ് കിട്ടിയ ശേഷം ഞങ്ങൾ ലിഫ്റ്റിൽ കയറി  അക്വാറിയം കാണാൻ പോയി. ലോകത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ എയർപോർട്ട് അക്വാറിയം ( വേറെ ഏതെങ്കിലും എയർപോർട്ടിൽ അക്വാറിയം ഉണ്ടോ എന്നറിയില്ല) എന്ന് പറയപ്പെടുന്ന ഇതിനു 14 മീറ്റർ ഉയരവും അതിനകത്തു രണ്ടായിരത്തോളം മത്സ്യങ്ങളും ഉള്ള ഇത് ഒരു അത്ഭുത കാഴ്‌ച ആയിരുന്നു. കുറച്ചു നേരം അവിടെ ചിലവഴിച്ചു കുറച്ചു ഫോട്ടോകൾ എടുത്ത ഞങ്ങൾ എമിഗ്രേഷൻ പൂർത്തിയാക്കി അകത്തെത്തി. അവിടെ നിന്നും മെട്രോ പോലത്തെ ഒരു ട്രെയിനിൽ യാത്ര ചെയ്‌ത്‌ ഡ്യൂട്ടിഫ്രീ ഭാഗത്തു എത്തി. അവിടത്തെ അൽബൈകിൽ നിന്നും ചെറിയ രീതിയിൽ ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചു ഗേറ്റ് അനേഷിച്ചു നടന്നു അവിടെയെത്തി.  ബജറ്റ് വിമാനം ആയതിനാലാകാം ഏറോ ബ്രിഡിജിനു പകരം ബസിലാണ് ഞങ്ങൾ വിമാനത്തിനടുത്തെത്തിയത്. അത് കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ വിമാനത്തിന്റെ ഫോട്ടോയ്‌യൊക്കെ നന്നായി എടുക്കാൻ പറ്റി . വിമാനത്തിൽ കയറി യാത്ര തുടങ്ങി. ചരിത്ര പ്രസിദ്ധമായ അക്കബ കടലിടുക്കിന്റെയും സിനായ് മരുഭൂമിയുടെയും മുകളിലൂടെയാണ് വിമാനം പറക്കുന്നത് എന്നതിനാൽ ആകാശത്തു നിന്നെങ്കിലും ഇതൊക്കെ ഒന്ന് കാണാൻ വേണ്ടി അതിനു പറ്റിയ ഒരിടത് 20 റിയാൽ കൊടുത്തു സീറ്റ് ബുക്ക് ചെയ്തിരുന്നു. ചെങ്കടലിന്റെ മുകളിലൂടെ തീരം കാണുന്ന രീതിയിൽ ആണ് വിമാനം പറന്നിരുന്നത്. ടിക്കറ്റിൽ ഭക്ഷണം ഉണ്ടെന്ന് എഴുതിയതിനാൽ അതെന്താണെന്നറിയാൻ ഏറെ കൗതുകം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. വിമാനം മുകളിൽ എത്തിയ ഉടനെ എല്ലാവര്ക്കും ഭക്ഷണ പൊതി വിതരണം ചെയ്തു. പാക്കറ്റ് പൊട്ടിച്ചപ്പോൾ കണ്ടത് അര റിയാലിന്റെ ഒരു വെള്ളകുപ്പിയും ഒരു റിയാലിന്റെ ഒരു ക്രോസന്റും ചെറിയ ഒരു കേക്കും ആയിരുന്നു. പുറത്തേക്കു നോക്കുമ്പോൾ കരയോട് ചേർന്നുള്ള  ചെങ്കടലിലെ ചെറു ദ്വീപുകളും കടൽ തീരത്തെ ചെറിയ പട്ടണങ്ങളും മറ്റും കാണു ന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കുറെ യാത്ര ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ  ഞാൻ കാത്തിരുന്ന കാഴ്ച മുന്നിലെത്തി. സൗദി യുടെ അതിരും ഈജിപ്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായ സിനായ് മരുഭൂമിയുടെ തുടക്കവും അതിനിടയിലുള്ള അക്കബ കടലിടുക്കുമെല്ലാം വ്യക്തമായി കാണാൻ പറ്റി . ഈജിപ്‌തിലെ  പ്രസിദ്ധമായ കടലോര ഉല്ലാസ കേന്ദ്രമായ ശാം അൽ ഷെയ്‌ഖിന്റെ ഭാഗങ്ങളും ചെറുതായി കണ്ടു, ഈ കടലിടുക്കിലൂടെ കുറച്ചു കൂടി മുന്നോട്ട് പോയാൽ ഒരു ഭാഗത്തു ജോർദാനും ഒരു ഭാഗത്തു ഇസ്രയേലും ആണ്.  സിനായ് മരുഭൂമിയുടെ മുകളിൽ കൂടിയാണ് വിമാനം കുറച്ചു സമയം പറന്നത്.  ഒരു മരം പോലുമില്ലാത്ത തരിശു ഭൂമിയും മലകളും അടങ്ങിയ ഈ സ്ഥലത്തിന് വേണ്ടിയാണല്ലോ കുറെ യുദ്ധങ്ങൾ നടന്നത് എന്നത് എന്നെ അത്ഭുത പെടുത്തി.  സിനായിയുടെ ഒരതിരിൽ ആണ് യുദ്ദം നടക്കുന്ന ഗാസ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. കുറച്ചു കൂടി യാത്ര ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ വിമാനം കയ്‌റോയുടെ മുകളിൽ എത്തി. പട്ടണത്തിന്റെ  മനോഹരമായ  ആധുനിക  ഭാഗത്തു കൂടിയും  നൈൽ നദിയുടെയും  കൃഷി നടക്കുന്ന ഭാഗങ്ങളിലൂടെയും പറന്ന് വിമാനം കെയ്റോ വിമാനത്താവളത്തിൽ ഇറങ്ങി. ടെർമിനലിലൂടെ കുറെ നടന്ന് ഇമിഗ്രേഷൻ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ നല്ല തിരക്കായിരുന്നു. കുറച്ചു സമയം വരി നിന്നാണ് ഞങ്ങൾ കൗണ്ടറിൽ  എത്തിയത്. എന്തെങ്കിലും ചോദിക്കുമോ എന്നൊക്കെ കരുതി യിരുന്ന ഞങ്ങളെ അത്ഭുതപ്പെടുത്തി ഒന്നും നോക്കാതെ ഒരാൾ പാസ്സ്പോർട്ടിൽ സ്റ്റാമ്പ് ചെയ്തു. അതിന് ശേഷമാണ് മറ്റൊരു ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥ വിസയൊക്കെ നോക്കിയത്. പുറത്തിറങ്ങിയ ഞങ്ങളെ ഹോസ്റ്റലിൽ എത്തിക്കാൻ  ഏർപ്പാടാക്കിയ ആൾ കാത്തിരിക്കുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. കാണാൻ പോകുന്ന കാഴ്ചകളുടെ വിസ്മയം ഓർത്തു ചരിത്ര പ്രസിദ്ധമായ കെയ്റോ നഗരത്തിലെ അത്ഭുതങ്ങളിലേക്കുള്ള  യാത്ര ഇവിടെ തുടങ്ങുന്നു. 

Budget-Friendly Egypt: Pyramids, Nile, and Unexpected Delights!

For years, I'd dreamt of witnessing the grandeur of Egypt's pyramids and exploring its ancient wonders. Months before my trip, I embarked on a mission to plan a budget-conscious adventure to the Land of the Pharaohs.

Flying directly from Jeddah to Cairo was the most economical option, saving me both vacation days and additional visa fees compared to routing through my home country. Imagine my delight when I snagged a roundtrip ticket for a mere 249 riyals with a meal and a generous 20kg baggage allowance, a far cry from the basic 7kg offered by other airlines!

Obtaining a visa through the Egyptian consulate in Jeddah seemed like a hassle, so I explored alternative options. Thanks to some online research, I discovered the "Atlas" app, which facilitated a quick and easy online visa application for just 2500 Indian rupees.

Next on the agenda: accommodation. After scouring online listings, I found a centrally located hostel offering comfortable accommodations for two for a mere 120 riyals per night. A detailed study of Cairo's map revealed that while the city is vast, most tourist attractions are clustered fairly close together, minimizing internal travel costs.

Just then, serendipity intervened! A friend introduced me to Shakir Ashari, a student living in Cairo. Shakir generously offered to be our guide and assist us throughout our stay. Having a local with years of experience in the city proved invaluable!

We secured a fantastic deal on a return flight from Cairo to Kozhikode via Riyadh with Flynas for 700 riyals. While I had initially planned a solo trip, my travel buddy (and coworker!), Dr. Ijaz, decided to join the adventure.

With everything meticulously planned, we arrived at the newly built terminal at Jeddah Airport, brimming with excitement. On a previous trip, I had missed the opportunity to visit the airport's famed aquarium, located in the arrivals area. This time, armed with our luggage and boarding passes, we made a quick detour for a visit. Rumored to be the world's largest airport aquarium, this 14-meter tall wonder housed a mesmerizing array of marine life – around 2,000 fish! After capturing some photos and soaking in the aquatic spectacle, we completed immigration and proceeded towards the departure gate.

Since it was a budget airline, we boarded via a bus instead of an aerobridge. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as it afforded us unobstructed views of the aircraft for some fantastic photos!

The flight path offered a unique opportunity – a chance to witness the legendary Red Sea from above, with the coastline clearly visible. The in-flight meal included in our ticket piqued our curiosity. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a simple yet satisfying combination: a half-liter water bottle, a one-riyal croissant, and a small cake. Gazing out the window, we spotted a string of tiny islands dotting the turquoise waters of the Red Sea, along with small coastal towns.

As the journey progressed, the sight I craved most finally emerged – the sharp demarcation between Saudi Arabia and the Sinai Peninsula, a part of Egypt, with the majestic Gulf of Aqaba nestled between them. We also caught a glimpse of Sharm El Sheikh, a renowned Egyptian beach resort. Continuing onward, the route hugged the coastline, revealing Jordan on one side and Israel on the other.

For a while, the plane soared over the vast expanse of the Sinai Desert. The sight of this barren, rocky landscape, devoid of even a single tree, filled me with a sense of wonder, considering the numerous conflicts fought over this very terrain. Gaza, a region currently embroiled in conflict, sits on the edge of the Sinai.

As we neared our destination, the plane descended over Cairo, revealing a stunning blend of modern cityscape and the winding Nile River, flanked by verdant agricultural fields. We disembarked at Cairo International Airport and proceeded towards immigration, where we encountered a long queue. However, to our surprise, the process was surprisingly smooth. Without a single question, the official stamped our passports, followed by a cursory visa check by another officer.

Emerging from the airport, we were greeted by the smiling face of the individual arranged by Shakir to transport us to our hostel. The anticipation of witnessing the wonders of historic Cairo thrummed through me – and our Egyptian adventure had truly begun!

കൊടൈകനാലിലേക്ക് നടത്തിയ കുടുംബ ഉല്ലാസ യാത്ര.

 കൊടൈകനാലിലേക്ക് നടത്തിയ കുടുംബ ഉല്ലാസ യാത്ര ഏറെ രസകരമായിരുന്നു. കുടുംബ യാത്രകൾ ഇടക്കിടക്ക് നടത്താറുണ്ടെങ്കിലും പ്രവാസിയായ എനിക്ക് ചിലതിലൊന്നും പങ്കെടുക്കാൻ സാധിച്ചിരുന്നില്ല . പിഞ്ചു കുട്ടികൾ അടക്കം നാല്പതോളം പേർ പങ്കെടുത്ത യാത്ര രാത്രി 10 മണിക്ക് യാത്ര ആരംഭിച്ചു. ബസ് മണ്ണാർക്കാടും പാലക്കാടും പിന്നിട്ട് തമിഴ് നാട്ടിൽ പ്രവേശിച്ചത് ഉറക്കത്തിലായിരുന്ന പലരും അറിഞ്ഞത് പോലുമില്ല. ഇടക്ക് പുറത്തു നോക്കുമ്പോൾ അരണ്ട വെളിച്ചത്തിൽ കാറ്റാടി പങ്കകൾ കറങ്ങുന്നത് കണ്ടിരുന്നു. നാലു മണിയോടെ ബസ് തീർത്ഥാടന സ്ഥലമായ പളനിയിൽ എത്തി. പളനി മലയും അതിനു മുകളിൽ  പ്രകാശത്തിൽ മുങ്ങി നിൽക്കുന്ന അമ്പലവും ഏറെ ദുരെ നിന്ന് തന്നെ കാണാം. പളനിയുടെ ഏതോ ഭാഗത്തു  വണ്ടി നിർത്തി പ്രാഥമിക കാര്യങ്ങൾ ഒക്കെ നിർവഹിച്ചു ഞങ്ങൾ യാത്ര തുടർന്നു. കുറച്ചു കിലോമീറ്ററുകൾ ഓടി ഞങ്ങൾ ചുരം പാതയിൽ എത്തി. അപ്പോയെക്കും നേരം വെളുത്തു തുടങ്ങിയിരുന്നു. 

മനോഹരമായ മാപ്പിളപ്പാട്ടും കേട്ട് ചെറിയ വേഗതയിൽ ചുരത്തിലൂടെയുള്ള യാത്രയും പുറത്തെ കാഴ്ചകളും നല്ലൊരു അനുഭവമായിരുന്നു. ചുരം യാത്ര പകൽ വെളിച്ചത്തിൽ വേണമെന്ന യാത്ര ക്യാപ്റ്റൻ സിദ്ദിഖിന്റെ തീരുമാനം ശരി വെക്കുന്നതായിരുന്നു ആ അനുഭവം . താഴെ കണ്ടിരുന്ന തടാകം ചുരം കയറുന്നതിനനുസരിച്ചു അകന്നകന്നു വന്നു ഒടുവിൽ കാണാതെയായി. കുറെ കയറിയപ്പോൾ അപ്പുറതുള്ള മലകളിൽ മനോഹരമായ വെള്ള ചാട്ടങ്ങൾ കാണാൻ പറ്റി .  ഇടക്കിടക്ക് ചെറിയ ചാറ്റൽ മഴ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും യാത്ര യിൽ ഒരിക്കൽ പോലും അത് ഞങ്ങളെ ശല്യപെടുത്തിയിരുന്നില്ല. മനോഹരമായ ഒരു മഴവില്ല് മലകൾക്കു മുമ്പിൽ കണ്ടത് മറക്കാനാവാത്ത അനുഭവം ആയിരിന്നു. ജീവിതത്തിൽ ആദ്യമായാണ് ഇത്രയും മനോഹരവും വലുതും ആയ ഒരു മഴവില്ല് കാണുന്നത്. കുറെ ഓടി ഞങ്ങൾ സിൽവർ കാസ്‌കഡ് എന്ന മനോഹര വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടത്തിനടുത്തി.  

കൊടൈക്കനാൽ എത്തുന്നതിനു മുമ്പുള്ള ഒരു മനോഹര വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടമാണിത്. 180 അടി ഉയരം വരുന്ന ഇവിടെ നല്ല വെള്ളം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എല്ലാവരും വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടം കണ്ട്  ആസ്വദിച്ച് കുറെ ഫോട്ടോകൾ എടുത്തു. അവിടെ റോഡരികിൽ നല്ലൊരു സ്ഥലം കിട്ടിയപ്പോൾ പ്രഭാത ഭക്ഷണവും അവിടെ നിന്നും കഴിച്ചു. അവിടെ നിന്ന് പിന്നെയും കുറെ യാത്ര ചെയ്തു  ആദ്യം ഞങ്ങൾ പോയത് റോസ് ഗാർഡനിലേക്കാണ്, 12 ഏക്കറോളം വിസ്തൃതി ഉള്ള ഇവിടത്തെ പ്രധാന കാഴ്ച പല തരത്തിലുള്ള റോസാ പൂക്കൾ ആണ്. പല തട്ടുകളിലായി വ്യാപിച്ചു കിടക്കുന്ന റോസ് ഗാർഡനിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ കുറെ സമയം ചെലവഴിച്ചു. പിന്നീട് പോയത് മൊയാർ  പോയിന്റ് ലേക്കാണ്. അവിടെ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങളെ വരവേറ്റത് നല്ല കോടമഞ്ഞായിരുന്നു. നട്ടുച്ചക്ക് പരസ്പരം കാണാൻ പോലും പറ്റാത്ത രീതിയിലുള്ള കോട മഞ്ഞും തണുപ്പും ശരിക്കും  ആസ്വദിച്ചു .ഗുണ കേവ് . പൈൻ ഫോറെസ്റ് അടക്കമുള്ള കൊടൈക്കനാലിലെ പ്രധാന കാഴ്ചകൾ കണ്ട് ഒരു ഷോപ്പിങ് ഏരിയ യിൽ ബസ് നിർത്തി , ചോക്ലേറ്റ് , സോവനീർ തുടങ്ങിയ പലതും പലരും വാങ്ങി. ആ യാത്രയുടെ ഓർമക്കായി കൊടൈക്കനാൽ എന്നെഴുതിയ ഒരു ഫ്രിഡ്ജ് മാഗ്‌നറ്റും പല തരം ചോക്ലേറ്റുകൾ അടങ്ങിയ ഒരു ബോക്സും ഞാൻ വാങ്ങി. യാത്ര യിലൂടനീളം പലരും കൊണ്ട് വന്ന പല ഹാരങ്ങളും പഴങ്ങളും വിതരണം ചെയ്തു കൊണ്ടേ ഇരുന്നു. ഒടുവിൽ കൊടൈക്കനാലിലെ തടാക കരയിൽ എത്തി.

 അവിടത്തെ പ്രധാന ആകർഷണമായ സൈക്കിൾ , കുതിര യാത്രകൾ പലരും ആസ്വദിച്ചു . ഒറ്റനോട്ടത്തിൽ ചെറിയ തടാകമെന്നു തോന്നുമെങ്കിലും സൈക്കിളിൽ അതൊന്നു ചുറ്റി വരാൻ നാല് കിലോമീറ്റർ സഞ്ചരിക്കണം . അവിടെ കുറെ സമയം ചിലവഴിച്ച ഞങ്ങൾ മടക്ക യാത്ര ആരംഭിച്ചു. മടക്ക യാത്രയിൽ കുട്ടികൾ മുതൽ വലിയവർ വരെ പാട്ടും മറ്റു കലാപരിപാടികളും അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു. എല്ലാവർക്കും  സമ്മാനങ്ങളും വിതരണം ചെയ്തു. അപ്പോയെക്കും ചുരമിറങ്ങി പളനിയിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ എത്തിയിരുന്നു. അവിടത്തെ ഹോട്ടലിൽ നിന്നും അത്താഴം കഴിച്ചു നാട്ടിലേക്കു പുറപ്പെട്ട  ഞങ്ങൾ  മൂന്ന് മണിയോടെ നാട്ടിൽ തിരിച്ചെത്തി.

Our family trip to Kodaikanal was a delightful and unforgettable experience. Being someone who works abroad, I don't get to participate in these trips very often. This one was extra special because nearly 40 people joined, including children!

We started the journey at 10 pm. Many of us slept as the bus passed through Mannarkkad and Palakkad before entering Tamil Nadu. I remember waking up occasionally and seeing the windmills spinning in the darkness. By 4 am, we reached Palani. We could see the Palani hills and the temple bathed in light even from a distance. After a short break there, we continued our journey towards Kodaikanal.

A few kilometers later, we reached the winding mountain roads. By then, dawn had broken. We enjoyed the beautiful Mappila songs playing inside the bus while taking in the breathtaking scenery outside. The driver, Captain Siddique, made a wise decision to choose a daytime mountain route. As we climbed, the lake we saw below seemed to shrink and eventually disappear from sight. After going up a bit further, we spotted beautiful waterfalls cascading down the opposite mountain slopes. Although there were occasional light drizzles, they didn't bother us at all.

One of the most unforgettable moments of the trip was seeing a stunning rainbow appear across the mountains. It was the biggest and most beautiful rainbow I'd ever seen! We continued our journey and soon reached Silver Cascade, a magnificent waterfall cascading down 180 feet. Everyone enjoyed the view and took pictures. We also had a delicious breakfast at a nice spot by the roadside.

Our next stop was the Rose Garden, a vast 12-acre expanse filled with various rose varieties. We spent a good amount of time admiring the colorful blooms. Then, we went to Moir Point Lake. As we arrived, we were greeted by a thick fog. We truly enjoyed the cool atmosphere and the thick mist that almost blocked our view from each other at noon.

We visited many other popular spots in Kodaikanal, including Guna Cave and Pine Forest. The bus stopped at a shopping area, and many bought souvenirs like chocolates. To remember this trip, I bought a fridge magnet with "Kodaikanal" written on it and a box of assorted chocolates. Throughout the journey, people shared fruits and snacks they had brought along.

Finally, we reached the Kodaikanal lake. Many enjoyed cycling and horse riding, the main attractions there. Though the lake seemed small at first glance, it stretched for four kilometers! After spending some time there, we began our return journey. On the way back, everyone, from children to adults, participated in singing and other fun activities. We even received gifts! By nightfall, we reached Palani again. After dinner at the hotel there, we finally started our journey back home and reached late in the afternoon.
